  Religion Standards

These standards are found in our In-Depth Study and permeate all areas of the curriculum, not just Religion. They are the foundation for evidence of the Catholic Identity of the school as described in the WCEA Self-Study.

Content Standard 1: Students will demonstrate evidence of their membership in a community of Faith.

Student Performance Standards. Students will demonstrate:

  • an attitude of respect for the dignity of each individual
  • knowledge and practice of Gospel values
  • participation in prayer experiences, community service projects and spiritual formation activities
  • an understanding and practice of evangelization

Content Standard 2: Students will demonstrate evidence of regular and frequent prayer and participation in liturgical celebrations.

Student Performance Standards. Students will demonstrate:

  • participation in traditional Catholic devotions, including daily prayer
  • membership in a worshiping community which includes regular attendance at the weekend liturgies in their parish
  • understanding of the liturgical year
  • knowledge and understanding of the sacraments
  • recent celebration of the Eucharist

Content Standard 3: Students will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Christian message.

Student Performance Standards. Students will:

  • meet the the School-wide Learning Expectations. (Note: see local school's list of these expectations, which reflect the school's mission and philosophy)
  • demonstrate an understanding of the essential and fundamental contents of Catholic doctrine in light of the Second Vatican Council and the whole of the Church's Tradition.

Content Standard 4: Students will give evidence of personal spiritual formation.

Student Performance Standards. Students will demonstrate:

  • a clear understanding of their identity as a Catholic, including their responsibilities to their parish and community
  • a practice of the Faith in their daily lives at school, home, parish, and in the community

Content Standard 5: Students will participate in service projects which reflect application of the principles of their Faith.

Student Performance Standards. Students will demonstrate:

  • an understanding that the purpose of service is a call to discipleship
  • reflection upon experiences of service
  • an understanding that service is of Catholic action within the community

Content Standard 6: Students will demonstrate acceptance of the challenge to address contemporary issues from a Gospel perspective and from the documents which form the Church's social teaching.

Student Performance Standards. Students will demonstrate:

  • recognition and celebration of cultural differences within the school community
  • a compassionate response to misfortunes of others
  • knowledge and understanding of the social justice teachings of the Church
  • a spirit of reconciliation and commitment to conflict resolution
  • examination of various ministries within the Church
  • living in a socially responsible way
  • sensitivity to the needs of the poor and marginalized
