  Our Mission

It is the mission of the Catholic School Department, through a model of centralized collaboration and communication, to support pastors and principals in their pastoral and educational administrative mission and to provide an effective Catholic educational environment for the spiritual and academic formation of each student.

For our mission to come to fruition, the following goals have been established:

  • Inspire leadership, in collaboration with pastors, principals and other administrative members, to enhance the overall Catholic identity within our parish and school communities.
  • Stimulate creativity and innovation among teachers in implementing the goals of Catholic education and faith formation.
  • Assist administrators in forming active evangelizing communities of students, faculty and parents.
  • Promote ongoing faith formation opportunities for faculty and parents.
  • Provide resources, support, and services to Catholic school communities.
  • Implement the long-range plan for curriculum development.
  • Utilize the talents and resources already present in our diocese.
  • Collaborate with other diocesan offices, as appropriate.

The professional staff and support staff are committed to serving the needs of those involved in the ministry of Catholic education.

The mission of the Catholic School Department Support Staff is to respond to pastors', principals', and visitors' requests and needs in a timely and efficient manner, and to greet visitors with graciousness and warm hospitality.

  Principals Collaborative Team & Curriculum Collaborative Team

The Catholic School Department receives consultative guidance through the collective wisdom, experience and talents of the PCT. They are representatives from each of the eight clusters of schools. They work to assist the superintendent in planning, assessment, decision-making, and direction-setting.

  Curriculum Collaborative Team

The mission of the Curriculum Collaborative Team is to support quality Catholic education for all students throughout the Diocese of Sacramento. The CCT works to ensure the implementation of Diocesan Standards and Schoolwide Learning Expectations, support the analysis of multiple and varied assessments, and lead the consistent practice of diversity in all schools.

Diocesan School Board

The Bishop of the Diocese of Sacramento establishes the Board to "work with all those involved in Catholic schools to make them communities of faith which are indeed living, conscious, and active."

In fulfillment of the mission of the Diocese of Sacramento, the mission of the Diocesan School Board is to:

  • Assist the Bishop in the formation and promotion of the Catholic faith communities within our parish and Diocesan schools
  • Strengthen the partnership which exists between parish, school and parents
  • Advise the Bishop in the management and advancement of Catholic schools
  • Support the formation of Catholic school educators
  • Develop and recommend policy

The Catholic School Department is one of four departments under the Secretariate for Pastoral Ministry. Its primary responsibility is to work collaboratively with other diocesan offices in implementing the ministerial vision of the Diocese, and the vision of all Catholic educational communities. The Catholic School Department is responsible for the overall supervision, administration, and organization of diocesan elementary and high schools. The Diocese of Sacramento has 52 Catholic schools:

40 single-parish elementary schools

3 two-parish elementary schools

4 Diocesan Catholic high schools

4 private Catholic high schools

1 joint parish/private model, grade 7-12
