  Employment Opportunities2008- 09 School Year

The Diocese of Sacramento consists of the 20 counties (42,000+ square miles) in Northeastern California. The weather is generally cool and rainy in the winter (40s - 60s) and warm and dry in the summer (70s - 90s). Our geography includes the Sierra Nevada mountains (South Lake Tahoe has a Catholic elementary school) and the East Bay area (4 elementary and 1 high school in Benicia/Vallejo). Sacramento itself is located 90 minutes from the ski slopes in Tahoe, and 90 minutes from the beaches of San Francisco. In addition to the wonderful community that is the Catholic school, teachers and principals will find many opportunities for recreation and social events. To those from the Midwest and Northeast who are reading this, our winter precipitation runs down the storm drains without us ever having to manually move it. When we want snow, we travel to the mountains, then drive home to short-sleeve shirt weather. Please consider the Sacramento Diocese when you are looking for a teaching or administrative position.

All hiring, teacher and principal, is done at the local school site. By Canon Law, the pastor, as chief administrator of the parish, is the hiring authority and makes all final decisions in hiring teachers and principals.

Application and Hiring Process

The application and hiring process is broken into two phases. Phase one deals with a Pre-Application Packet Letter, the Diocesan Policy regarding the hiring of Lay Employees, the Pre-Application Statement, and the Applicant Questionnaire.

"Prime responsibility for creating this unique Christian school climate rests with the teachers, as individuals and as a community. The religious dimension of the school climate is expressed through the celebration of Christian values in Word and Sacrament, in individual behaviour, in friendly and harmonious interpersonal relationships, and in a ready availability. Through this daily witness, the students will come to appreciate the uniqueness of the environment to which their youth has been entrusted." The Religious Dimension of Education in a Catholic School, #26, The Congregation for Catholic Education, 1988
